I am an ESRC-funded PhD researcher at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter, where I am also affiliated with the Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health. My doctoral research explores the historical development of medico-legal categories of sex and gender in Lebanon. More broadly, I am interested in questions of bioethical consensus-making, and in decolonial and transdisciplinary approaches to research.
In 2024–2025, I held a fellowship at the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, supported by the UKRI International Placement Scheme. My work has been published in the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies.
Before beginning my PhD, I completed an MRes in Middle East Studies at the University of Exeter, also funded by the ESRC SWDTP. My MRes dissertation examined the use of social media by Lebanese activists and influencers.
In 2020, I earned an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from St Antony’s College, University of Oxford. My MPhil dissertation focused on the politics of British post-conflict heritage aid to Iraq. I also hold a BA in Ancient Near Eastern Studies with Arabic from University College, University of Oxford.
